WINTER FAIR 2006
2006 was a landmark occasion for the Winter Fair as it celebrated its 21st anniversary, in association with Northern Bank, the sole sponsor.
The Fair, which took place on 14th December, was well attended by visitors from throughout Ireland, and welcomed a 10% increase in trade stand exhibitors. New trade space was created on the Cattle Lawn in a temporary building adjoining the Kings Hall to accommodate this marked increase in new stands, as well as for existing exhibitors who wished to expand their trade space.
For the first time in 11 years cattle from the Republic of Ireland were able to participate, and it proved a major achievement for southern breeders who brought home the Winter Fair title. In total, southern breeders scooped three first prizes, one second, two thirds and a fourth placing.
This year's fair also saw the very first Junior Holstein Champion class to recognise the quality of the younger animals.
