firmus energy Schools Trail at the Balmoral Show

The Schools Trail at Balmoral Show is an exciting children’s initiative and is once again proudly sponsored by firmus energy.  As an added bonus to taking part, firmus energy is running a competition where one lucky school will win a plasma screen television.

The trail is open to all schools throughout the three days of the Show and a free guide service provided by Treasure Trails N.I. will be offered to all primary school, hospital and special needs groups on a limited basis.  This interactive guided tour will last approximately 90 minutes taking the children around 13 stops which cover the entire Showground’s. Pre-booking is necessary to avoid disappointment.

Neil Holland, head of sales and marketing for firmus energy said: “We are delighted to once again sponsor the Schools’ Trail. Year on year, the Show is well attended by schools across Northern Ireland and the trail provides a great interactive and educational way for school children to maximise their visit to the Show.”

It is also increasingly important for young people to understand the importance of everyone reducing their carbon footprint. As natural gas is the most environmentally friendly of all the fossil fuels we felt that supporting this trail fits well with our education programme and is a natural partnership.”

“We are also providing worksheets to all pupils who take part telling them all about natural gas so that they can learn a little more about the reduced carbon emissions, lower costs, efficient heat, instant hot water and space saving opportunities it can provide.  All completed worksheets will be entered into a draw and one lucky pupil will win a plasma TV screen for their school. We look forward to welcoming even more school children to the trail this year and hope everyone enjoys their trip to the Show.”

Some of the other stops include the Safefood Stand where children will learn the importance of washing their hands before handling food.  When visiting the Good Food Pavilion the children will have the opportunity to taste a variety of foods and learn about growing their own vegetables and at the Ulster Bank stand they will get to meet Henri Hippo, take part in colouring activities as well as learning how to save with Henri.

Other stops on the trail this year include McDonalds, Children’s Farm, Rare Breeds display and DOE Road Safety.  By taking part in the schools trail, children will gain a better understanding about food and agriculture in Northern Ireland as well as having an exciting day out.

There will also be the opportunity to see some of the main attractions of the Balmoral Show including; Titan the Robot, BMX and Skateboarding displays and the Top Lodge Dancing Dogs display.  For any schools visiting on Wednesday, Bob the Builder will be making personal appearances at various intervals throughout the day.

With brand new stops on the trail and exciting new attractions at the Show, there is only one school trip that can pack so much into one day out!  The Balmoral Show in partnership with Ulster Bank runs from the 12 – 14th May 2010 at the King’s Hall Complex, Belfast.
