Launch - Food Village Grows from Strength to Strength
Food Village ‘Grows’ from Strength to Strength
Food producers great and small will come together this May to form the biggest Food Village the Balmoral Show has seen to date.
With a 25% increase in food exhibitors, the 2010 Show will see local producers, large supermarkets, and independent retailers present their fare side by side, offering visitors a chance to try and buy quality local produce.
Over 50 exhibitors will be present in the 2,500sqm Food Village - located close to the main Arena - including eleven new stall holders such as Superchamp, Provenance Salads and The Armagh Cider Company. Old favourites such as Linwoods, the Ulster Pork & Bacon Forum and Taylor’s Ice Cream will also be on site, alongside retail giants Tesco and Sainsbury’s to showcase an array of fresh produce, speciality foods and ingredients.
“Local produce has always been an integral part of Balmoral Show, and the Food Village has been a key component of the show for several years, but feedback from both the visitors and exhibitors suggested that this was something we should develop further for 2010,” said Rhonda Geary, RUAS Operations Director.
“We’re delighted to have attracted a greater number of food exhibitors than ever before, with an interesting range of local produce on display including organic fruit and vegetables, pre-packed meats right through to home-baked breads, tarts and pastries. We would encourage all visitors to show their support for the Northern Ireland food industry by paying a visit to the Village and sampling some of the excellent local produce on display.”
Speaking on behalf of Food NI Michele Shirlow Chief Executive said,
“This year you will be able to enjoy the best of good local food in the Good Food Pavilion. As well as being able to sample the best local produce from over 30 companies you will be able to see it being cooked before your very eyes by a selection of Taste of Ulster chefs. There will be something for everyone, with special interactive areas where kids can learn about the source of local food and a shop and drop area for those who want to take home some local produce and want somewhere to safely store it while they enjoy the rest of the show. Come along, enjoy the flavors’, aromas and interact with the chefs to see how in Northern Ireland Good food really is in our Nature.”
Cookery demonstrations, competitions and tasting sessions will run in the Food Village over all three days, offering visitors the chance to sample a variety of food from potatoes, pak choi and pork to cheese, cake and ice cream. Marks & Spencer and Asda will also have tradestands at the Show.
The Balmoral Show in partnership with Ulster Bank runs from Wednesday 12th May – Friday 14th May 2010. It is open from 8.30am – 8.00pm daily. Visit www.balmoralshow.co.uk for more information.
