Q & A's
Q) What measures are going to be put in place to manage traffic volume?
A) The most important measure is to ensure that all the required information is disseminated as widely as possible through media coverage, advertising, web and social media. The Balmoral Show will be very busy. The Show traffic volume is the same as the daily rush hour. The Show will start an hour later at 9:30 to avoid this. To arrive at the traffic management plan the existing Balmoral Show traffic profile was measured, factored up, added to the local traffic and computer modelled. There followed consultation with the various statutory bodies including our neighbours, DRD, Lisburn Council, PSNI and Translink. Main routes were identified but reserve routes are included to provide flexibility on the day. Motorway gantry signs, variable information signs, static signs and media will be used to provide information to approaching traffic.
Q) Will there be a one way system in place?
A) There is no planned one way system but PSNI will be directing local traffic as required. Traffic from different origins will be directed to the Show on different routes and will enter the showgrounds by different gates. Traffic will be directed away from residential areas. Non essential traffic will be asked to avoid the area.
Q) Is there parking available?
A) Yes. There is ample provision for car parking. It will cost £7 per day per car and £12 per day per coach. We would hope, however, that the 22% of visitors who currently use public transport to visit the Show will continue to do so. There will be a dedicated coach park for bus excursions. Some trains from Coleraine will travel to Lisburn without requiring passengers to change in Belfast. There will be a bus shuttle from Lisburn Railway station to Balmoral Park for train, bus and foot passengers.
Q) If parking is full where will people park? Will there be an overflow car park available?
A) Yes there is an overflow car park within the overall site albeit with a slightly longer walk to the Show.
Q) Once the event has finished, what measure will be taken to ensure the community is not affected by litter etc?
A) We do everything we can to persuade visitors not to drop litter in the first place. Litter picking is ongoing throughout the day. The showgrounds receive a deep clean overnight ready for the next day’s activities. The whole area receives a final clean after the breakdown of the event.
Q) Are there any road works being under taken by the RUAS and if so how will this be rectified by the end of the Balmoral show?
A) There are no road works being undertaken by the RUAS. Perhaps this is a moment, however, to thank the Culcavy residents for their patience while the new entrances and service connections for Balmoral Park were constructed in Halftown Road and Bog Road. We couldn’t have run Balmoral Show without them.
